Temple Grandin'e mektup

Dear Ms Temple Grandin

You will be surprised to hear our story.

You are a heroin, but in our home we also have a hero.

My son Cem is 14 years old and thank God that he is no longer an autistic:),though he never accepted himself to be named as one.

His videos that I'm sending you, are to announce how much we both tried to take him out of this very complicarted situation.

He is a nominy to the precious TEMPLE GRANDIN AWARD not only to win the prize ,but also to share his expriences in this path full of rocks.

I think my son deserves your award.
Because he worked so hard just to feel much more normal.

We live in Turkey and as you may guess that in such an underdeveloped country it is extremely hard to try to cure such a confusing symtom.

His journey began as regressive autism but now he is %98 out of autism:)
As he is in his puberty now he still suffers from this unknown condition but he looks like a spoiled young man.
He is talkative even in English ,though he said his first words when he was 5yo.
He goes to regular school 6th grade, can read and write.
He even goes to movies.(subtitled ones)
He plays darbuka,bateri,keyboard
learning to play tennis, soccer, basketball and horseriding.
He calls his friends with telephone, invites them home and plays with them in his room.

We had to change our rutins and dreams of ourselves for Cem's sake.
Though I am an economist I had to remain just a mother in order to rescue CEM.
My daughter,20 yo is will become a pyschologist to understand Cem.
To motivate Cem,his father has started to play basketball years later and I have started to the University again.

Even though it is so hard, I want to give you good news about autism and want to tell you that TREATING IS POSSIBLE.
You have been witnessed that years ago, didn’t you.

Of course Cem still has some sensory issues and many alternative therapies have not been tried yet because of the lack of knowledge and financial matters.

In september 2001 our story were published in Turkish newspapers 3 times and once in ATTA Washington and till then me and Cem tried to help volunteerly to the families, suffering from autism and we keep sending information and our videos free of charge.
People insist on me to write a book on autism but I'll write about the siblings(silent angels) of the people with autism.

Cem is also learning English and he might tell you how he felt when he was an autistic.
If you have a web-cam you may contact us and make conversation with him any time you like.
But don't forget that Turkey is 10 hours in the eastern part of USA.

His therapists are from Israel and USA.
He will carry some symptoms of autism for the rest of his life because we haven't had the chance to meet his SI therapist in Tel-Aviv before he was 7,5 yo.
In 1998 we have been in USA and visited Marry Bolles in Boulder Colorado for a specific therapy called Sensory Learning.
That time I tried to call you to invite and meet in our residance but unfortunately you were absent.
I keep reading your books ,you are an angel who shows me the inside of autism.
I'm sure Cem will be an expert on music.

With your cooperation I beleive Cem will be leading a very beneficial life both for himself and for the autism enigma.

Thanks
